The Pontefract No More War Council organised a demonstration in the Castle grounds on the afternoon of 21 September 1924. A procession was formed at the War Memorial, Town End, led by the Ambulance Brigade band. This then marched to the Castle grounds. The speakers included Mr J. Merchant, of Sheffield, President of the British Esperanto Association. No More War demonstrations were held on 20 September at Hebden Bridge and Sowerby Bridge. A meeting had also been held at Saltaire.
